How do I get there... ?

  • How to travel to Gambia from the UK, Europe and the USA.

You can book flights from the UK and Europe without difficulty. It is often cheaper to book a package rather than a separate flight and accommodation. Flights by Monarch who cover charter flights and  Astraeus who will soon offer scheduled flights. Cosmos, Gambia Experience, Olympic/Odyssey and TUI UK all cover Gambia.
If your flying in from the USA there will soon be no need to fly either via London or to Dakar. North American Airlines, will inaugurate weekly scheduled service linking Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport to Banjul, The Gambia and Accra, Ghana beginning June 4, 2006.

Malaria is a killer. You must take the proper medication. Use at least 30% DEET.

If you are crossing the border into Senegal you should have this in your passport.

  • Rabies.
Don't go near dogs. If your in Senegal or Mauritania consider this depending on how long your staying and where you will be. Beware dogs outside Senegal villages and early morning packs of dogs in Nouakchott.

Safety... ?

  • Gambia.

A very safe destination just use common sense at night and when dealing with strangers.

  • Senegal
Dakar is a very busy city. Watch out and read up on the un-safe area's before you go. I've never had any problems North of Dakar or in any other area's of the Country. St. Louis for example is a very relaxed place.

  • Mauritania.
Nouakchott and the rest of the Country are safe just work out all your prices in advance for taxi's and any small shop deals or money changing.
